2018 USA Archery South Dakota State Indoor & State JOAD Championship

USA Archery State Indoor & State JOAD Championships!

ARCHERS PLEASE NOTE: In order to recognize any state championships or records all archers must comply with USA Archery and World Archery rules regarding competition. Please read tournament information for details. 

Tournament Information

The NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center calls all archers that meet the eligibility requirements to participate in the

2018 USA Archery South Dakota State Indoor & State JOAD Indoor

That will take place according to the following:


Open to archers qualifying in the Yeoman, Bowman, Cub, Junior, Cade, Senior and Master age divisions of USA Archery. Age divisions based on calendar year of birthday, see below.

Bow categories: Recurve, Compound, Barebow, Basic Compound, following USA Archery and World Archery equipment rules

Shooting times: Friday at 6:00 pm, Saturday at 3:00 pm

Cost Registration Fee - $25 per participant

Competition Format

Double 18m indoor scoring- 60-arrow

Archers need only shoot one line of the two offered for this event. Each line will shoot a double 18-meter, 60-arrow, scoring round. 

Participant Eligibility

Membership Requirement: To register for the South Dakota USA Archery State Indoor Championships; participants in all categories and divisions must be a current member of USA Archery. National Field Archery Association (NFAA) members may apply for a USA Archery

JOAD Club Membership Requirements: Youth archers that wish to be included in the JOAD State Indoor Championship rankings must be current members of USA Archery or the NFAA with NFAA Temporary Membership at no charge.

a USA Archery Temporary membership (available for free, see above) and also a member of a USA Archery JOAD Club. The USA Archery JOAD club does not have to be located in the same state as the JOAD State Championship. Scores from the USA Archery State Indoor will be used for JOAD State Indoor ranking.

State Residence: Participants must be a resident of the state in which the event is held to be eligible to earn awards and a state ranking. Guest divisions will be available and will be eligible for guest awards.

Age Categories

USA Archery age divisions determined by the year an archer turns that age. For example: if an archer turns 15 years old between January 1 and December 31, 2018, they must shoot in the Cadet division.

Bow Divisions

Distance and Target Size

All age categories and bow divisions will shoot at 18 meters, with the exception of the Yeoman age category shooting 9 meters.

All archers in the compound bow divisions will shoot at either a 40cm single target face with 10-1 scoring rings or a 3-spot target face with gold-red-blue (10-9-8-7-6) scoring areas.

Cub, Bowman and Yeoman age categories shooting in the Recurve, Barebow and Basic Compound bow divisions will shoot at a 60cm single target face with 10-1 scoring rings.

All state indoor Recurve, Barebow, and Basic Compound bow divisions will use outer 10-ring scoring. All state indoor Compound bow divisions will use inner 10-ring scoring.

The X-ring will not be utilized in USA Archery state indoor round.

Bow Divisions

The USA Archery South Dakota State Indoor and State JOAD Championships will follow equipment rules set out by USA Archery and World Archery. Archers are responsible for knowing and complying with all equipment rules. Archers not complying with rules of competition are subject to disqualification from event.

ARCHERS PLEASE NOTE- All archers must comply with equipment regulations, including arrow diameter. USA Archery follows World Archery rules on archers equipment including arrow diameter. As per World Archery Rules Book 3 Chapter 11 Section 1.7.1:

"An arrow consists of a shaft with a tip (point), nocks, fletching and, if desired, cresting. The maximum diameter of arrow shafts shall not exceed 9.3mm (arrow wraps shall not be considered as part of this limitation as long they do not extend further than 22cm toward the point of the arrow when measured from the throat - nock hole where the string sits - of the nock to the end of the wrap); the tips (points) for these arrows may have a maximum diameter of 9.4mm. All arrows of every athlete shall be marked with the athlete's name or initials on the shaft. All arrows used in any end shall be identical visually, including length but not including weight and shall carry the same pattern and colour(s) of fletching, nocks and cresting, if any. Tracer nocks (electrically/electronically lighted arrow nocks) are not allowed."

For example: Easton X23's are in compliance, Easton X27's are not. 

Archers not in compliance with World Archery's rules on equipment or any other requirements for athletes will not be allowed to participate in this event.

Dress Code

All participants, coaches, team manager, tournament officials and archer’s agents are required to abide by USA Archery’s Dress code. Including USA Archery's rules on no denim or camo. " No camo or blue denim (jeans) may be worn at target events."

Please note USA Archery has determined that we will allow camo patterned equipment at all USA Archery sanctioned events. Camo clothing will not be allowed with the exception of camo trim (reference link above).

Meals and transportation will not be supplied by facilities; but concessions, drinks and snacks, will be available on site.


Attendants willing to volunteer their time to help with event are greatly welcomed and appreciated. Please notify organizing chair for volunteer sign up. Special consideration given to volunteers that have previous experience working tournaments with set-up, registration, scoring teams, digital scoring systems, field crew, judging or DOS through programs such as Scouts, 4H, NASP, JOAD, or USAA/NFAA/ASA including certified judges. No experience necessary though, staff is available to train if interested.
