Yankton Archers Strong At State

BY JEREMY HOECK jeremy.hoeck@yankton.net

It was not that long ago that Kali Pavlik was first picking up a bow to shoot with some friends at a church camp.

Now, she’s a state champion.

It’s been a quick progression for the 15-year-old from Crofton, Neb., who was one of 11 members of the Yankton Youth Archery Instruction Program to win a championship at last weekend’s South Dakota Archery Association State Indoor Championships in Yankton.

“Everything just came together,” Pavlik said Wednesday at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Complex, where all the winners gathered for a photo before practice.

“I was pretty excited, and I’m sure everyone around me could tell.”

Among the record number of archers at the 2014 state tournament were the 11 area individuals who claimed first place in their respective division. Girls’ champions included Pavlik, Cedar Bartos, Kendra Hunhoff, Brenna Becker and Gabby Keiser. Boys’ winners included Connor Odens, Kevin Colgan, Elias Bartos, Michael Strom, Walker Hunhoff and Sky Nockels.

The Yankton youth program also had a team walk away with a title, as Elliot Cull joined Keiser, Cedar Bartos and Kendra Hunhoff to win.
