Envisioning The Archery Possibilities

By Nathan Johnson

Could Yankton be to the archery world what Silicon Valley is to the technology sector?

That’s the scope of the vision Yankton officials have in mind as they make plans for an archery development park on 20 acres of property being purchased along East Highway 50 just south of Applied Engineering.

Yankton Area Progressive Growth (YAPG) and the National Field Archery Association (NFAA) are forming a partnership to purchase the land, which is adjacent to the sprawling NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Complex.

“I think this really shows Yankton and YAPG’s commitment to making this an archery community,” said NFAA President Bruce Cull, who lives in Yankton. “(The NFAA is) probably the driving force behind it because of what it is and where it is.”

YAPG’s executive committee, Planning and Development District III, Community Development Director Dave Mingo and City Manager Amy Nelson have been working together on a prospectus for the concept of the park.
