City to Consider Property Transfer to NFAA

The Yankton City Commission will consider a contribution of land, equipment and cash to the National Field Archery Association (NFAA) Monday.

The NFAA wants to expand the number of archery ranges and parking space at its headquarters on the east side of Yankton.

City officials have proposed that 12 acres of property formerly used for a landfill and now utilized for storage space be given to the NFAA for its expansion. If the archery organization decides it no longer wants the property in the future, ownership would revert back to the city.

Additionally, the city has offered to buy the NFAA a mower that costs $25,000 or less. Municipal employees would no longer provide property maintenance under the agreement, nor would the city be responsible for repairs to the mower.

In the final part of the proposal, the city would give the NFAA up to $38,000 to reimburse it for the purchase of materials used to construct a comfort station. The facility would be located on NFAA property, but a perpetual easement would be in place so the public would have access to it. The NFAA would agree to pay for any future maintenance to the comfort station.

In other business Monday, the City Commission will hold a public hearing on a water conservation ordinance, consider moving ahead with a housing study and hear a funding request from RiverWalk.

The meeting gets under way at 7 p.m. in the City of Yankton Meeting Room, located at the Technical Education Center, 1200 W. 21st St.
